Update January 16 2012: The Spring Awakening Workshop in Hocking Hills for May 11-13 is now full. A waiting list has been started for those who would like to be notified in the event of a cancellation. Please email me if you'd like to be added to the waiting list.

Join Professional Photographer and Workshop Instructor Jim Crotty as he guides and instructs shutter bugs of all skills and experience in discovering the beauty that is Hocking Hills in spring. From an incredible variety of wildflowers to forest waterfalls, Jim will lead a group of 20 participants to his favorite locations in Hocking Hills State Park for nature and landscape photography with emphasis on Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve, Old Man’s Cave, Ash Cave and Cedar Falls. Subjects covered will include macro and close-ups of spring nature subjects, woodland scenics and understanding how the right light can make all the difference.
The weekend workshop will be based at the woodland retreat and inspiring surroundings of The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls. From Friday to Sunday evening participants will be provided with a wide range of instruction from learning how to get the best results from the DSLR camera to recommended lenses and equipment to optimal digital editing and workflow. Also included will be a class image critique as well as Jim’s recommendations for marketing and selling nature and landscape photographs. Field instruction sessions and outings will provide opportunities for one-on-one instruction on camera settings, composition and best techniques for capturing images that make the most of both technical skill and artistic vision.
The following blog entry, with student image gallery, video and participant review of the "Return to the Hills" workshop presented at The Inn at Cedar Falls in Hocking Hills, October 2011, provides a good glimpse of weekend photography workshops by Jim Crotty.
Cost and Options
The fee for the Spring Awakening weekend workshop is $225.00 per person which includes both field and classroom instruction, workshop booklet and handouts and breakfast and lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Lodging and transportation are not included, however, there is a 10% discount for rooms, cabins and cottages at The Inn at Cedar Falls for registered workshop participants.
Also, there is a one-day option for those just wishing to attend either Saturday or Sunday. The cost for one-day option is $135.00 and includes breakfast and lunch.
The Spring Awakening Workshop is limited to 20 participants.

To Register
A non-refundable $25 deposit is required to register and reserve a space within the Spring Awakening Workshop. Balance of workshop fee is due on Friday evening May 11 or the morning of the day of attendance for those choosing the one day option. Deposit and workshop pre-payments can be made via PayPal to "jim@ohiophoto.org" or by check to: Photography by Jim Crotty. Mailing address is 32 Palmetto Bay Road, #3A Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29928.
Gift certificates are available for holiday gift giving. If purchasing the workshop for a friend or family, please email jim@ohiophoto.org or call 843-842-9200. A custom gift certificate with the participant's name will be provided as a printable jpg or PDF file.

Who Should Attend
Previous participants at Jim Crotty's workshops include those just starting-out with their first DSLR camera to those with many years of experience with nature photography. Instruction and guidance is primarily directed to beginners, however, advanced shooters will still find a variety of new subjects to photograph as well as advanced tips and instruction on technique and equipment.
What To Bring
A DSLR camera is highly recommended but not required. There are many advanced "point-n-shoot" digital cameras now on the market which provide professional settings and options. Also recommended are tripod, zoom or macro lens, camera bag, cable release and digital media cards. A laptop may be helpful during classroom instruction on digital editing and workflow.
The workshop will feature a variety of field locations some of which will require short distance hiking. A good, sturdy pair of hiking boots is recommended. Also, early May in Hocking Hills can be cool and wet as well as the fact that some field sessions will be taking place at sunrise.
Cancellations, Delays and Refunds
Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel for any reason. I do maintain a waiting list once each workshop is filled to capacity with 20 registrations. Workshop deposit payments are non-refundable except in the case of an emergency situation. In the remote case of instructor health issues or family emergencies, severe weather or other unforeseen events, I will do my best at first to re-schedule the workshop, however, registered participants will be provided with the option of having their deposits or pre-payments fully refunded.
Under no circumstances will Jim Crotty or Picture Ohio, llc be responsible for any other expenses such as flights, medical, car rentals and hotels that you may have incurred.
Before participating in a workshop all attendees will be required to sign a General Release, Assumptions of Risk, Limitation of Liability and Cancellation form.
Presentations to Schools, Clubs and Corporate Organizations
I've presented my work and my creative vision to various groups over the last four years, including many schools, camera clubs and professional organizations. I have a very relaxed style, incorporating a fair amount of story telling about my many experiences photographing in the field and for a wide variety of clients as well as what it took to overcome some personal obstacles and challenges to finally being on the right path with my life and my artistic vision.
I like to have fun with my presentations, but most important of all, I like to inspire and motivate my audience to follow their own dreams and goals in life as well as develop and integrate creative vision in all that they do. Obviously my presentations are geared toward the showing of my photographic images. I use select photographs, via both large format, mounted prints as well as audio-visual digital slide presentations through a MacBook Pro and projector, that best illustrate a particular photographic technique as well as those that communicate my unique creative vision and approach toward life.
I adjust my presentation style and material according to the select audience I'm scheduled to speak to, such as "how I got involved with photography" for school groups or "Finding the Light: More Than Just a Photographer" for social and corporate organizations.
Fees for presentations are based on intended audience, time required, travel and hand-out materials. Fees can vary based on whether the organization is a non-profit or profit. I retain the right to donate presentation time to select non-profit and educational organizations. Please call 843-842-9200 or email to learn more about how my presentations can enhance your classroom or organizational meeting. Please schedule at least three months in advance.
